ABUJA — Nigerian troops have recovered propaganda equipment after killing an alleged cameraman for the Daesh-linked Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a failed militant attack in the country’s northeast, military authorities said.
The suspect was among a group of insurgents who attempted to attack military positions in the region but were repelled by troops, according to the Nigerian military. Several militants were killed during the operation, while others escaped.
Security forces recovered cameras, digital storage devices and other materials believed to have been used to produce and distribute extremist propaganda. Military officials said the equipment could provide valuable intelligence on the group’s media operations, recruitment activities and command structure.
The military identified the slain suspect as a media operative responsible for recording attacks and producing propaganda content aimed at recruitment and intimidation.
