Mogadishu: The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced that a targeted operation in the Hiiraan region has resulted in the death of several Al-Shabaab militants.
In an official statement released by NISA, the agency confirmed that a planned operation was carried out at the Gaycad junction in the Mabaax area of Hiiraan. According to the statement, 13 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the strike. NISA described the militants as remnants and commanders who had previously been targeted in the same area.
“The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), with the support of international partners, carried out a well-coordinated operation last night at the Gaycad junction in the Mabaax area of Hiiraan region. The operation successfully eliminated 13 members of the Khawarij (a term used by the government for Al-Shabaab), who were fugitives and former leaders previously targeted in this area,” the statement read.
The release added that the operation was conducted in two successive phases, targeting a location where the militants were regrouping and planning attacks against Somali civilians. The strike not only neutralized the threat but also destroyed all weapons and equipment in their possession.
NISA reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing Al-Shabaab militants wherever they may be, vowing to continue operations aimed at protecting the Somali people from violence and extremism.
