President Hassan Sheikh: “I Want the Somali People to Judge Us”

MOGADISHU — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on the Somali people to judge his administration based on its performance, achievements, and the tangible impact of government policies on citizens’ lives.

Speaking during a recent engagement, President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the importance of public accountability, saying that the government should ultimately be assessed by the results it delivers rather than by political statements or promises.

“I want the Somali people to judge us,” President Hassan Sheikh said.

The President’s remarks come as Somalia continues to pursue efforts aimed at strengthening state institutions, improving national security, expanding public services, and advancing political and economic reforms.

Hassan Sheikh said the government’s success should be measured by its ability to deliver meaningful improvements for ordinary Somalis, including greater security, stronger institutions, economic opportunities, and improved access to essential services.

His comments also come amid growing public and political debate over Somalia’s future political direction, governance, and electoral process. Political stakeholders have continued to call for greater transparency, accountability, and broad public participation in decisions affecting the country.

The President has repeatedly urged cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia, federal member states, political leaders, civil society, and the wider Somali population, arguing that national challenges require collective efforts.

As Somalia moves through a critical period of political and institutional development, the President’s call to be judged by the Somali people places greater focus on government performance and public confidence.

Ultimately, the statement reflects a broader message of accountability: the government should be evaluated by what it delivers for the Somali people.
