President Ruto Fires Back at Gachagua Over Corruption Allegations

NAIROBI — Kenyan President William Ruto has launched a sharp attack on his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of misusing public resources during his time as a Member of Parliament and questioning his credibility as a government critic.

Speaking at a public event, Ruto dismissed Gachagua’s recent criticism of his administration, claiming that the former deputy president had little moral authority to lecture the government on leadership and accountability.

“You were a one-term MP who stole relief food meant for poor and vulnerable people. What can you tell us?” Ruto said, drawing cheers from supporters.

The remarks mark the latest escalation in a growing political feud between the two leaders, whose relationship has deteriorated dramatically since Gachagua’s departure from government. Both figures have increasingly exchanged accusations over governance, corruption, and the country’s political direction.

Gachagua has emerged as one of Ruto’s most vocal critics, accusing the administration of failing to address key economic and social challenges facing Kenyans. Ruto, however, has repeatedly defended his record and accused opponents of attempting to undermine government reforms for political gain.

Political analysts say the public exchange reflects deepening divisions within Kenya’s ruling political camp and could shape alliances ahead of future elections.

Neither Gachagua nor his representatives immediately responded to the president’s latest accusations.
