Doha — His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, met today with His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro, President of Somaliland, during the latter’s visit to Doha.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to support peace and stability in Somalia. The two leaders exchanged views on recent developments, underlining the importance of dialogue, trust-building, and joint efforts to promote lasting security across the region.
HE the Prime Minister reaffirmed Qatar’s firm commitment to the sovereignty and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, emphasizing that the country’s future depends on openness and constructive communication among all its people.

Somaliland, a region in northwestern Somalia, declared independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Somali government.
Although it operates with its own government, holds democratic elections, and maintains relative stability, Somaliland has not gained international recognition as a sovereign state.
