KINSHASA (HAN) – A Somali business delegation received a warm welcome in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The delegation was led by Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle.

The visit follows a year-long series of consultations between the Somali Embassy in Kenya and Somali entrepreneurs based in Kenya, with the support of the Somali Embassy in Nairobi. The mission aims to strengthen business ties and open new avenues of investment in the DRC.

Somali trade and investment activities have been rapidly expanding across Africa, particularly in East, Central, and Southern regions of the continent.

Many Somali traders in the DRC run businesses directly linked to Kenya, including fuel supply and the cross-border movement of vehicles between the two countries.

The Somali Embassy in Kenya and the DRC Embassy in Nairobi jointly organized the delegation’s visit, which included networking sessions, discussions on easing trade procedures, and exploring new business opportunities for Somali investors.

Notably, the Somali Embassy in Kenya has previously played a key role in securing the release of Somali businesspeople who had been detained in the DRC.

During their stay, the delegation will also hold meetings with Somali entrepreneurs currently operating in the DRC, with a focus on addressing challenges facing Somali traders and finding practical solutions to strengthen their businesses in the Congolese market.
