MOGADISHU, (HAN) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday chaired the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers in Mogadishu, where discussions centered on accelerating state-building efforts and improving the delivery of essential public services.

During the session, President Mohamud emphasized the need for enhanced coordination, accountability, and transparency across all levels of government. He urged ministers to work collectively to strengthen state institutions and rebuild public confidence in governance.

Ministers presented reports highlighting recent progress in security, the economy, and governance. According to the briefings, Somali security forces have made significant territorial gains against the al-Shabaab militant group over the past six months, inflicting heavy losses while expanding training programs and improving the operational capacity of the Somali National Army (SNA).

The Cabinet also reviewed initial preparations for the 2026 national budget, noting that proposed spending increases will prioritize investments in health care, education, and other critical social services. The government aims to ensure that public resources are directed toward improving citizens’ living standards and promoting long-term stability.

President Mohamud called on ministers to play a more active role in the country’s democratization process, underscoring the importance of inclusive governance and civic participation. He said the government remains committed to advancing Somalia’s recovery by strengthening unity, promoting accountability, and projecting a positive image of the Somali state at home and abroad.
