Mogadishu – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a sharp condemnation of Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, accusing him of instigating deadly clashes in the disputed town of Dhahar, located in the volatile Sanaag region.

In a strongly worded statement released by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, the government expressed deep concern over the eruption of violence that reportedly left several dead and wounded.

The Ministry described the incident as a “regrettable tragedy” and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

“The Ministry is deeply saddened by the unfortunate events in Dhahar that have resulted in loss of life and injuries. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families,” the statement read.

The Ministry called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, urging all involved parties to show restraint. It also appealed to traditional elders, religious leaders, and intellectuals in the community to step in and help de-escalate the situation to prevent further bloodshed.

The Ministry blamed President Deni for undermining regional stability by redeploying counter-terrorism forces from Qardho to Dhahar.

These troops, originally assigned to combat ISIS, are now reportedly engaged in the internal conflict.

“The President of Puntland semi-autonomous region in northeastern Somalia, must immediately halt provocative actions that risk worsening the conflict. The troops redeployed from Qardho must return to their original anti-terrorism mandate and cease involvement in actions that threaten peace,” the Ministry warned.

This latest confrontation highlights rising tensions between the Federal Government and Puntland, amid long-standing disputes over political authority and territorial control in Somalia’s northeast.

The Ministry concluded by reaffirming that dialogue and de-escalation remain the only sustainable paths toward peace in the region.
