Mogadishu – (Horn Africa News) – The Federal Government of Somalia has announced a major step towards national integration and security with the successful recruitment of new troops from the Sanaag region. The initiative has been met with widespread enthusiasm from local communities eager to a unified and stronger Somalia.
Federal officials from Sanaag confirmed that young men and women from the region have shown great interest in joining the national armed forces.
Speaking at a press briefing, Minister of Commerce and Member of MP Mohamed Adan Geesood praised the patriotism of the Sanaag people and underscored the federal government’s constitutional duty to include all regions in building the nation’s security forces.
“This recruitment reflects the federal government’s commitment to ensuring that every Somali region is represented in our national defense. It is a step toward unity, stability, and shared security,” said Minister Geesood, stressing that the initiative is lawful and poses no threat to any party.
The move comes at a time when some regional leaders have voiced concerns, but the residents of Sanaag have welcomed the federal government’s engagement after years of limited direct services.
Many locals expressed hope that this effort marks the beginning of stronger ties with the central government and greater inclusion in national development.
Political analysts note that this development signals shifting dynamics in regional politics, as areas like Sanaag and Sool increasingly engage with the federal government. The government of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is also working on establishing formal governance structures for the Khaatumo and Maakhir regions, addressing long-standing gaps in local administration and reinforcing national cohesion.
This recruitment also represents a hopeful chapter for Somalia, as the country moves closer to realizing its vision of unity, peace, and inclusive governance.
