MOGADISHU/DJIBOUTI — A senior Somali leader said he arrived in Djibouti on Friday to attend the inauguration of the country’s re-elected president, Ismail Omar Guelleh, in a visit aimed at reinforcing close bilateral ties and regional cooperation.

“I have arrived today in the beautiful city of Djibouti to take part in the inauguration ceremony of my brother, President Ismail Omar Guelleh,” the Somali official said in a statement, describing the event as a reflection of political continuity and stability in the Horn of Africa nation.

Djibouti, strategically located at the entrance to the Red Sea, plays a key role in regional security and hosts several international military bases. The ceremony is expected to draw regional leaders and diplomats, underlining the country’s importance in efforts to maintain stability in the Horn of Africa.

The Somali official emphasized the longstanding relationship between Somalia and Djibouti, noting that the two countries share “deep brotherly ties, historical cooperation and common interests” that bind their peoples and governments.

Analysts say cooperation between the two nations has been critical, particularly in areas such as security, trade and regional diplomacy, with Djibouti contributing to peacekeeping and stabilization efforts in Somalia over the years.

During his stay, the Somali delegation is expected to hold talks with Djiboutian leaders and other officials, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic partnerships and deepening collaboration on regional security.

“The meetings will further consolidate our cooperation and advance joint efforts for peace, development and stability in the region,” the statement added.

The visit comes at a time when countries in the Horn of Africa are seeking to bolster cooperation amid ongoing security challenges and economic pressures.
