Mogadishu – The Federal Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), received a high-level Iraqi delegation today at his office in Mogadishu. The delegation was led by Lieutenant General Ziyad Daha Ali, Advisor to the Iraqi Minister of Interior, and Lieutenant General Alaa Canshur Manati, Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

The meeting centered on strengthening the historic and brotherly relations between Somalia and Iraq, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in the fields of security, counter-terrorism, military training, and the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Minister Fartaag welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for their visit, describing it as a key step toward deepening bilateral ties. He underscored Somalia’s eagerness to benefit from Iraq’s extensive experience in counter-terrorism and stressed the importance of continued institutional collaboration between the two ministries.

This visit follows Minister Fartaag’s recent official trip to Iraq, during which both ministries signed a comprehensive security cooperation agreement. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in security efforts, promote mutual capacity building, and facilitate the exchange of best practices in the fight against terrorism.

The Somali government sees this growing partnership as part of its broader commitment to improving national security through regional and international cooperation.
