MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Lawmakers from Somalia’s National Salvation Council have accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Parliamentary Speaker Sheikh Aden Madoobe of undermining the constitution and “hijacking” the 7th session of the Federal Parliament.

In a press statement, the opposition MPs denounced the ongoing parliamentary session as unconstitutional and illegitimate, alleging it has fueled political division, corruption, and institutional failure.

The lawmakers charged that both President Mohamud and Speaker Madoobe had “failed to safeguard the constitution and the rule of law,” creating a deepening crisis that threatens Somalia’s fragile governance system.

The National Salvation Council urged Somali citizens, political actors, and the international community not to recognize any outcomes from the disputed 7th session. They also called for increased pressure on the country’s leadership to uphold constitutional order and protect democratic governance.

The Council further argued that the crisis surrounding the 7th session is proof that Somalia’s parliament is no longer serving the interests of the people, warning that urgent measures are needed to “rescue the rule of law and democracy” in the country.
