MOGADISHU — Somali police on Monday displayed a cache of weapons at the Elite Hotel in Mogadishu, saying the arms had been seized during security operations carried out by the country’s security forces.

Officials said the weapons were recovered in recent operations aimed at disrupting armed groups and preventing attacks in the capital and other parts of the country. The display included a range of firearms, ammunition, and military equipment allegedly confiscated during the raids.

Police authorities said the seizure reflects ongoing efforts by Somali security agencies to strengthen security and combat threats posed by militant groups and criminal networks.

The exhibition was attended by security officials and members of the media, who were shown the weapons as part of what authorities described as efforts to demonstrate progress in maintaining public safety.

Somalia has intensified security operations in recent years as government forces, supported by local militias and international partners, continue campaigns against extremist groups operating in the country.

Officials did not immediately provide details on the number of suspects arrested in connection with the seized weapons or the exact locations where the arms were recovered.

The display comes amid continuing efforts by the government to improve security in

Mogadishu and prevent the flow of illegal weapons that could be used to carry out attacks against civilians and state institutions.o
