BELGRADE — President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by a high-level delegation, arrived in Belgrade, Serbia, on Monday afternoon for an official visit focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Somalia and Serbia.
President Hassan Sheikh was warmly received upon arrival by senior Serbian government officials, marking the beginning of his engagements in the Serbian capital.
During his visit, President Hassan Sheikh is expected to hold an important meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen political relations, diplomatic cooperation and areas of mutual interest between Somalia and Serbia.
The talks are also expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to explore new areas of bilateral cooperation, including economic relations, investment, development, education, trade and other sectors of shared interest.
President Hassan Sheikh’s visit comes as Somalia continues to expand its diplomatic engagement with countries across Europe and other regions, seeking to strengthen international partnerships and promote Somalia’s national interests.
In addition to his bilateral engagements, President Hassan Sheikh is participating in a high-level international gathering in Belgrade commemorating the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was held in Belgrade in 1961.
The anniversary brings together leaders and senior representatives from countries around the world to reflect on the historical role of the Non-Aligned Movement and discuss contemporary international challenges, including peace, sovereignty, development, international cooperation and global security.
Somalia’s participation gives President Hassan Sheikh an opportunity to engage with other world leaders and strengthen diplomatic relationships on the sidelines of the gathering.
The President’s meetings in Belgrade are expected to focus on strengthening Somalia’s international partnerships while advancing cooperation with Serbia based on mutual interests and shared diplomatic priorities.
