BAIDOA — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre arrived in Baidoa on Sunday to participate in the inauguration of South West State Leader Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), in a ceremony expected to draw senior political figures from across the country.

The event is being attended by federal government officials, leaders of regional administrations, lawmakers, traditional elders, and representatives of the international community, highlighting its importance within Somalia’s evolving federal system.

Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State, has been hosting delegations from across Somalia in recent days as preparations intensified for the inauguration ceremony. Security measures were also strengthened across the city ahead of the arrival of high-ranking officials.

The presence of President Hassan Sheikh and Prime Minister Hamza is seen as a demonstration of the federal government’s support for regional administrations and its commitment to strengthening cooperation between Mogadishu and the federal member states.

Political analysts say the ceremony provides an opportunity for Somali leaders to reaffirm their commitment to national unity, state-building, and collaboration on key priorities, including security, governance, and economic development.

The inauguration comes at a critical moment for Somalia as the country continues efforts to implement constitutional reforms, advance democratization, and intensify military operations against the al-Shabab militant group.

South West State remains one of Somalia’s most strategically important federal member states, playing a significant role in the country’s political landscape and ongoing security operations.

The gathering of national and regional leaders in Baidoa is expected to provide an opportunity for discussions on a range of issues affecting Somalia, including federal-state relations, security cooperation, reconciliation efforts, and development initiatives.
