MOGADISHU – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said that Somalia is gradually restoring its democratic traditions, supported by stronger national institutions, a more resilient population, and increased reliance on domestic resources to build a stable and prosperous state.
Speaking during a ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of United States independence, the President highlighted Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance structures and expand state capacity after decades of conflict and institutional fragility.
He praised the Somali-American community for its contributions to national development, including support for institution-building, strengthening bilateral relations, and assisting in efforts to counter terrorism and modernize state institutions.
President Mohamud also emphasized the importance of international partnerships, noting that Somalia’s progress depends on cooperation with its diaspora and global allies, particularly in areas of security reform, economic recovery, and democratic consolidation.
He added that Somalia’s long-term stability will be achieved through strengthened governance, improved public services, and greater self-reliance in national development efforts.
The remarks come as Somalia continues to implement political and security reforms aimed at stabilizing the country and expanding state authority across liberated and contested areas.
