KAMPALA — The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madoobe), has arrived in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, for a high-level regional parliamentary summit.
The Speaker and his delegation were received this afternoon at Entebbe International Airport by Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare, along with senior diplomats from the Somali embassy in Kampala.
According to officials, Mr. Madoobe is in Uganda to participate in the East African Community (EAC) Speakers’ Conference, which brings together parliamentary heads from member states to discuss the region’s legislative priorities and integration agenda.
This year’s summit is expected to address ways of strengthening inter-parliamentary collaboration, harmonising laws across the region, and boosting economic cooperation among the EAC’s member countries. Discussions will also highlight ongoing efforts to advance political integration, improve cross-border trade, and support peace and stability initiatives in the region.
Somalia, which officially joined the EAC in 2023, is taking part in the conference as part of its broader efforts to deepen engagement with regional institutions and align national legislation with EAC frameworks.
During his stay in Kampala, Speaker Madoobe is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with senior Ugandan government officials and fellow parliamentary speakers from across the East African bloc. The talks are expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing parliamentary cooperation, and exploring opportunities for joint development initiatives.
Uganda is a key regional partner to Somalia, particularly in security cooperation, with Ugandan forces playing a major role in stabilisation efforts under the African Union mission.
The Somali delegation is expected to remain in Kampala for several days as the conference continues.
