ALGIERS — Somalia and Algeria have held discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations, expanding economic cooperation and creating new opportunities for the exchange of goods between the two countries.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Yusuf Ahmed Hassan, met with Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Professor Kamel Rezig, to discuss ways to deepen commercial ties and identify mutually beneficial economic opportunities.
During the meeting, the two sides explored opportunities to expand the availability and marketing of Algerian products in the Somali market, while examining ways to increase trade and improve access to goods that meet the needs of Somali consumers.
The discussions also focused on strengthening commercial links between businesses in both countries and identifying opportunities for greater cooperation in trade and investment.
Plans for Somalia–Algeria Business Council
A key issue discussed during the meeting was the proposed establishment of a Somalia–Algeria Business Council.
The proposed council is expected to serve as a platform for bringing together business communities from both countries, encouraging joint commercial initiatives and facilitating partnerships between Somali and Algerian companies.
Such a framework could also help businesses identify potential investment opportunities, establish commercial networks and explore new markets for their products.
Expanding Bilateral Economic Relations
The talks form part of broader efforts to strengthen economic relations between Somalia and Algeria and explore new avenues for bilateral trade.
Expanding commercial cooperation could provide businesses in both countries with opportunities to diversify trading partnerships, improve access to markets and develop mutually beneficial investment initiatives.
The meeting highlights the importance of diplomatic engagement in promoting economic partnerships and building stronger connections between the private sectors of both countries.
Further progress will depend on follow-up discussions, the development of practical cooperation mechanisms and the implementation of initiatives designed to facilitate trade and investment.
The proposed Somalia–Algeria Business Council could play an important role in advancing these efforts by providing a dedicated platform for business engagement and supporting closer economic ties between the two nations.
