ASWAN, (HAN) — Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre delivered a keynote address at the 5th Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, held in Aswan, Egypt, under the theme “Africa’s Power for Development and Change in the Modern World.”
In his remarks, Prime Minister Barre said Somalia has embarked on a path toward lasting development after overcoming years of security, economic, and political challenges.
The Prime Minister highlighted tangible achievements by his government, including:
• Rebuilding state institutions,
• Securing international debt relief,
• Strengthening Somalia’s regional and global relations,
• Lifting the decades-long arms embargo, and
• Significant progress in security, particularly in the fight against extremist groups.
Barre also unveiled Somalia’s National Transformation Framework (2025–2030), a development plan focusing on six key pillars:
1. Rebuilding infrastructure and the national economy,
2. Promoting economic growth and job creation,
3. Improving social services such as education and healthcare,
4. Ensuring food security and advancing agriculture,
5. Protecting the environment and developing clean energy, and
6. Promoting transparency and good governance.
“Somalia today is a nation that has emerged from conflict and destruction, and is steadily moving on the path of sustainable progress and prosperity,” Barre said. “No one will be left behind in our national efforts to build a united and resilient future.”
The Prime Minister thanked the Egyptian government for its continued support to Somalia in peacebuilding, reconstruction, and cooperation efforts. He emphasized the historic and growing brotherly relations between the two nations.
