Mogadishu – The Federal Government of Somalia has declared its full solidarity with the people and government of Syria, urging respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid escalating tensions and violence in the region.
In an official statement released by Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government called for peaceful dialogue to resolve the current challenges and conflicts affecting Syria, emphasizing the need to avoid further warfare.
“Somalia believes that any solution to the challenges facing Syria must be rooted in mutual respect, dialogue, and the protection of the Syrian people’s interests,” the statement read.
The Ministry further underscored Somalia’s unwavering support for Syria’s unity and independent decision-making, stating: “Somalia stands fully with the brotherly people and government of Syria, supporting its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national political decisions.”
This statement comes at a time when Israeli airstrikes have reportedly targeted Syrian defense ministry facilities and areas near the presidential palace, citing the protection of Druze communities in the region as justification.
Simultaneously, heavy clashes between Druze and Bedouin groups in the Suwayda region have led to the deaths of hundreds and injuries to thousands, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
Somalia’s appeal adds to growing international calls for de-escalation and a return to negotiations as violence continues to destabilize parts of Syria.
