GALGADUUD – Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Mr. Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, conducted a field inspection visit to Eil Tair village in the Galgaduud region of central Somalia on Sunday.

The visit is part of ongoing government efforts to monitor military operations against Al-Shabaab, assess the security situation on the ground, and strengthen coordination between frontline commanders.

Officials said the delegation aimed to review the progress of security operations in areas recently affected by militant activity, while also evaluating logistical and operational challenges facing deployed forces.

During the visit, the Minister and the Chief of Defence Forces held meetings with senior military commanders stationed in the area, receiving detailed briefings on battlefield developments, security gains, and operational needs.

They also commended Somali National Army troops for what they described as their “bravery and sacrifices” in ongoing operations, emphasizing the need to maintain pressure on armed groups in order to restore stability and expand government control in central Somalia.

Authorities say military operations have intensified in parts of the Galgaduud region in recent weeks, as part of a broader national campaign aimed at weakening Al-Shabaab presence and securing key rural and urban areas.

The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations until full security is restored and civilian protection is ensured across the region.
