MONTREAL, (HAN) — A high-level delegation from Somalia’s Federal Government is attending the 42nd General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), held in Montreal, Canada.

The meeting has brought together representatives from more than 193 member states, international organizations, major aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing, aviation technology providers, and airport security companies.

According to ICAO, discussions during the assembly will focus on aviation security, innovation and new technologies, airport infrastructure development, and strengthening international cooperation in the aviation sector.

Somalia’s delegation is led by State Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation Abdikarin Abdow Heydar, accompanied by senior officials from the ministry and the Somali Civil Aviation Authority, including Director General Ahmed Macalin Hassan.

The Somali delegation is also holding bilateral meetings with their counterparts on the sidelines of the assembly to explore ways to strengthen civil aviation services.

Ahmed Macalin Hassan said Somalia’s participation provides an important opportunity to deepen engagement with ICAO member states and to learn from best practices in upgrading the country’s aviation services.

In recent years, the Somali government has recorded tangible progress in modernizing and improving its civil aviation sector, officials noted.
