HANOI — Vietnam’s President, Lương Cường, has officially received the credentials of Somalia’s Ambassador Hodan Osman, marking the first time a Somali diplomat has been formally accredited to Vietnam at the ambassadorial level. The ceremony, held with full state honors, reflects a significant step in the deepening relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Hodan Osman is Somalia’s Ambassador to China and is concurrently accredited to several Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. Her accreditation represents an expansion of Somalia’s diplomatic footprint in one of Asia’s fastest-growing economic regions.

Vietnam is today considered one of the world’s leading emerging economies, ranking among the top 30 largest global economies. The country continues to grow rapidly, with strong performance in manufacturing, agriculture, production, and international trade. Analysts say Somalia’s strengthened diplomatic engagement with Vietnam could open new opportunities for cooperation in investment, education, agriculture, and technology.

Vietnam’s warm reception of Ambassador Hodan underscores the country’s interest in building broader ties with African nations, while also strengthening bilateral relations with Somalia at a time both countries seek to expand their global partnerships.
