Nairobi – The Somalia’s Isaaq clan has strongly complained about discrimination they say they are facing from the Kenyan government, stating that the clan has no representation in government institutions.
The clan raised this concern during a meeting held in Nairobi, where they called on President William Ruto’s government to address their grievances.
Some of the officials who spoke at the meeting said that the Isaaq clan has long been part of the Somali community living in Kenya, yet they have not received any meaningful representation.
They also called for the Kenyan government to include the Isaaq clan on the list of recognized clans eligible for opportunities, so they can be treated equally with other Somali clans.
Several Somali clans regularly hold senior positions in the Kenyan government, while the Isaaq clan has never held any government position.
The Isaaq clan called for recognition and the granting of rights similar to those given to other clans, in order to achieve both social and political justice.
The clan described the situation as unfair and called for urgent action to ensure that they are granted rights equal to those of other clans in Kenya.
