MOGADISHU, (HAN) — Somalia’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has confirmed that the country will announce the results of its oil exploration activities in the coming months, marking a significant milestone in its developing energy sector.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dahir Shire Mohamed, stated that the Somali government has a clear policy on the nation’s oil extraction program and the equitable sharing of benefits, in accordance with mutually agreed laws between Somalia and Turkey.
Speaking on the progress of exploration, Minister Shire highlighted that the first phase of offshore oil exploration, covering approximately 4,460 square kilometers, has been successfully completed.
“The results of the exploration and the timeline for starting oil production in Somalia will be announced in the coming months,” Shire said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to developing the petroleum sector.
He further noted that Somalia stands to gain significantly from oil extraction and mineral resources and assured that there are currently no obstacles affecting production. The minister also urged the public and stakeholders to refrain from inflammatory statements that could undermine national efforts in developing the energy sector.
Since his appointment in December 2024, Minister Shire has overseen major advances in Somalia’s oil and gas sector, including new exploration agreements, regulatory reforms, and strengthened international partnerships.
