MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Speaker of the House of the People of Somalia, Hon. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), held a meeting on Wednesday with the newly elected Somali members who will represent the country in the East African Community (EAC) Parliament. The representatives were chosen yesterday by members of both houses of Somalia’s Federal Parliament.
During the opening of the meeting, Speaker Madoobe congratulated the members on their election and underscored the importance of their role. “The Somali people are looking to you to provide visible results and genuine representation at the regional level. Your work will directly impact Somalia’s voice and influence within the East African Community,” he said.
The elected members expressed their gratitude to their colleagues in both the House of the People and the Upper House for the confidence placed in them to represent Somalia in the EAC Parliament. They also highlighted their commitment to promoting Somalia’s national interests, strengthening regional integration, and advocating for policies that support peace, development, and economic cooperation within the East African region.
Speaker Madoobe emphasized the responsibility that comes with the position, urging the members to act with integrity, diligence, and dedication. He encouraged them to ensure Somalia’s priorities are effectively advanced in the EAC Parliament, including trade facilitation, cross-border security cooperation, and the promotion of democratic governance across the region.
“The East African Community is a key platform for Somalia to engage with regional partners. Your role is critical in ensuring that Somalia’s voice is heard and that our national interests are defended,” he added.
