KAMPALA — The Speaker of the Somali Federal Parliament’s Lower House, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), has been elected Chairperson of the East African Community Legislative Assembly Forum for the 2025–2026 term.

His election was confirmed during the 20th Summit of Speakers of East African Community Parliaments, which is taking place in Kampala. The annual summit brings together parliamentary leaders from across the region to assess progress on regional integration, review cooperation, and strengthen legislative harmonisation among member states.

Sheikh Adan Madoobe, who led the Somali delegation, secured the position following unanimous endorsement from participating states. The appointment is seen as a significant step for Somalia, which joined the East African Community in 2023 and has since been working to expand its role within regional institutions.

This year’s summit focused on reviewing resolutions adopted during the previous meeting, evaluating the outcomes of the Clerks of EAC Parliaments, and discussing draft rules and regulatory frameworks prepared by the EAC Parliamentary Committee. Participants also explored ways to enhance cooperation between national legislatures and improve the effectiveness of the regional bloc.

Sheikh Adan Madoobe’s leadership is expected to further strengthen Somalia’s engagement in regional political and legislative processes and reinforce the country’s place within the East African Community.
