ANKARA — Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence, Yasar Guler has said that its maritime security operation protecting the drilling vessel Çagri Bey, operating in Somali waters, is progressing well.

The ministry stated that Turkish naval forces deployed in the region are continuing to ensure the safety and security of the vessel as it carries out oil exploration activities offshore Somalia.

Türkiye has expanded its maritime and energy cooperation with Somalia in recent years, including agreements on hydrocarbon exploration and security support for operations in Somali territorial waters.

The Çagri Bey is among vessels involved in Türkiye’s overseas energy exploration programme, which has increasingly extended into the Horn of Africa as Ankara seeks to broaden its energy partnerships.
The Somali government has previously welcomed Turkish involvement in the country’s energy and maritime development sectors, describing it as part of broader bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
