Iran Announces Agreement with United States

TEHRAN/WASHINGTON — Iran’s state media has announced that Tehran has reached a formal agreement with the United States, marking what it described as the first official confirmation of a deal between the two countries in recent years, according to Iranian state television.

The announcement did not immediately provide full details of the reported agreement but said it followed diplomatic exchanges aimed at reducing regional tensions and addressing disputes over maritime security and sanctions.

Shortly after the Iranian broadcast, former U.S. President Donald Trump said in remarks quoted by his team that “the agreement we have reached with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.”

Trump added that the deal would ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open for international shipping, stating: “Ships from around the world, begin your voyages freely.”

The Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route, has long been a flashpoint in U.S.-Iran tensions, with past disputes raising concerns over global energy security and maritime stability.

Neither Washington nor Tehran has released a joint statement confirming the full terms of the reported understanding, and independent verification of the agreement was not immediately available. Regional observers are closely watching developments to determine whether the announcement signals a breakthrough in long-standing tensions or an initial political declaration pending formal negotiations.
