MOGADISHU — Somalia and Egypt have discussed expanding cooperation in the petroleum and mining sectors during a meeting between Somali officials including H.E. Dahir Shire Mohamed, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia and an Egyptian delegation led by Mohamed Karim Fouad Khanif, Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation through technical training, institutional development, capacity-building programs, and knowledge exchange initiatives.
Officials also discussed opportunities to support Somalia’s emerging natural resource sector, including efforts to improve technical expertise and regulatory capacity in petroleum exploration and mineral development.

Somali authorities said the discussions reflect growing cooperation between the two countries and expressed hope that practical partnerships would contribute to economic development and mutual benefit.
The meeting comes as Somalia seeks greater international investment and technical support to develop its natural resource industries.
