MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia is set to hold what officials are calling the largest military parade in the country’s modern history on Wednesday in the capital, Mogadishu.
Government sources confirmed that the event will bring together units from the Somali National Army, Police Force, and other security institutions in a coordinated display of military strength, discipline, and national capability.
The parade will reportedly feature newly trained troops, armored vehicles, artillery units, and security formations, highlighting recent reforms and international training support aimed at rebuilding Somalia’s defense forces.
Officials said the ceremony is designed to demonstrate “national recovery, unity, and sovereignty,” as the government continues operations against armed insurgent groups in several regions of the country.
Security preparations have intensified across Mogadishu, with road closures, checkpoints, and increased patrols expected ahead of the event. Residents have been advised to comply with security directives and avoid restricted zones during the parade.
Senior government officials, military commanders, and invited foreign diplomats are expected to attend the high-profile ceremony.
Analysts say the parade is also intended to send a political message of state authority and institutional rebuilding, at a time when Somalia continues to face security and governance challenges.
Authorities have not disclosed the full list of military assets to be displayed, but officials described the event as a “historic milestone” for the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Further details are expected to be released shortly before the ceremony begins.
