CAIRO — Egypt has called on the international community to take urgent and coordinated action to address the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, warning that continued hostilities risk further destabilising the wider Middle East.
In a statement, Egyptian officials said an immediate cessation of violence is necessary to protect civilians, stressing that all parties must comply with international law, international humanitarian law, and the United Nations Charter.
Cairo strongly condemned attacks on civilians and infrastructure, and called for accountability and independent investigations into alleged violations committed during the conflict.
The statement comes as diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire continue through regional and international mediation channels, including talks involving Egypt, Qatar and the United States.
Humanitarian agencies have warned of a deepening crisis in Gaza, where shortages of food, clean water, fuel and medical supplies have left millions of civilians in increasingly dire conditions amid ongoing fighting and restrictions on aid delivery.
Egypt reiterated its call for the urgent and sustained facilitation of humanitarian access, saying aid must reach affected populations “without obstruction” and at scale.
The country has played a central mediating role since the outbreak of the war, hosting negotiations between the parties and coordinating with international partners on ceasefire proposals and humanitarian corridors.
Officials in Cairo said stabilising the situation in Gaza is critical not only for Palestinian civilians but also for regional security, warning that escalation could spill over into neighbouring states.
Egypt has long positioned itself as a key regional mediator, particularly in Gaza ceasefire negotiations and humanitarian coordination through the Rafah crossing.
