MOGADISHU — The Acting Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, met with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, to discuss strengthening cooperation in support of Somalia’s security priorities and stabilization efforts.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between UNSOS and international partners to support Somalia’s ongoing security transition, including assistance to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the Somali Security Forces (SSF).

Both sides underscored the importance of sustained international engagement in helping Somalia address security challenges, counter terrorism, and build capable national security institutions.

The discussions also highlighted the critical role played by UNSOS in providing logistical and operational support to AUSSOM and Somali forces as they continue efforts to improve security and extend state authority across the country.

Sadozai and Ambassador King reaffirmed the value of strong partnerships between the United Nations, donor countries, and Somali authorities in advancing long-term peace and stability.

The meeting further emphasized the need for reliable and predictable funding for the Somali Security Forces Trust Fund, which supports the development, training, and sustainment of Somalia’s security institutions.

The United Kingdom remains one of Somalia’s key international partners, providing diplomatic, humanitarian, development, and security assistance in support of the country’s state-building and stabilization agenda.

The talks come as Somalia and its international partners continue to work toward strengthening national security capabilities and supporting the gradual transfer of security responsibilities to Somali-led institutions.
