No OMDURMAN — Sudan’s Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has reaffirmed his commitment to continuing military operations against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), declaring that the army will press ahead until what he described as the “rebellion” is fully defeated.

Speaking after Friday prayers at the Sheikh al-Tayeb Mosque in the Umm Marahi area of Omdurman, Al-Burhan paid tribute to soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during what the Sudanese military refers to as the “Battle of Dignity,” praising their sacrifices in defense of the nation.

The Sudanese leader said the Armed Forces, together with allied units and supporting forces, remain determined to restore security and stability across the country after more than three years of conflict that has devastated large parts of Sudan and displaced millions of people.

Al-Burhan stressed that the future of Sudan would not be dictated by force or external pressure, but through a national consensus involving the Sudanese people. He emphasized that any political process or settlement must enjoy broad public support and address the country’s security concerns.

“We will never abandon the Sudanese people,” Al-Burhan said. “We will not hand over this country except through a national consensus that satisfies all Sudanese. Our forces will continue this battle until the rebellion is eliminated and stability is restored.”

The military leader also praised residents of northern Omdurman for their resilience throughout the conflict, saying local communities played a crucial role in preventing rebel forces from gaining control of the area. He noted that military operations that later led to the recapture of significant parts of Khartoum were launched from the region.

In addition to discussing the war, Al-Burhan highlighted the role of Sudan’s religious institutions in preserving national unity. He commended the country’s Sufi orders, particularly the Samaniyya Order, describing them as important pillars of Sudanese society that have historically promoted moderation, tolerance, social harmony, and peaceful coexistence.

He said Sufi scholars and religious leaders have contributed to strengthening community bonds and countering extremist ideologies during some of the most difficult periods in Sudan’s history.

Al-Burhan further reiterated that the Sudanese Armed Forces draw their strength from public support and the determination of their fighters on the battlefield. He warned that any initiative that fails to guarantee security, stability, and the aspirations of the Sudanese people would not be accepted.

The remarks come as Sudan continues to face one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with ongoing fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF causing widespread displacement, economic hardship, and destruction across several regions of the country.

Despite growing international calls for a negotiated settlement, Al-Burhan’s latest statements signal that the military leadership remains committed to pursuing its campaign while insisting that any future political arrangement must emerge from a Sudanese-led national consensus.
