Renowned Somali Scholar and Military Veteran Ali Shucaac Dies in Nairobi

NAIROBI — Sheikh Ali Abdille Figiye, widely known as Ali Shucaac, a respected Somali scholar, military officer, author, and veteran of the Somali nationalist struggle, has passed away in Nairobi, Kenya, after a lifetime dedicated to serving his country and people.

The late Colonel Ali Shucaac was among the most distinguished figures in the history of the Somali National Army and was remembered for his contributions as a soldier, intellectual, and advocate for Somali unity. He was also associated with the struggle for the liberation of Soomaali Galbeed (the Somali Region), earning recognition as a committed nationalist and defender of Somali interests.

Throughout his military career, Ali Shucaac played a significant role in the defense of Somalia and was among the officers remembered for their participation in the 1977 Ogaden War, as well as other efforts aimed at protecting the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity.
