MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Ali, on Tuesday paid a condolence visit to the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Mogadishu to express the sympathies of the Federal Government and people of Somalia following the passing of Qatar’s Father Amir and former Emir, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

During the visit, the minister signed the embassy’s book of condolences and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the leadership, government, and people of Qatar. He was received by the Deputy Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Minister Abdisalam extended Somalia’s condolences to H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari Royal Family, and the nation at large, describing the late Father Amir as a visionary leader whose contributions played a significant role in Qatar’s transformation and development on the regional and international stage.
The minister paid tribute to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s enduring legacy, noting that his leadership left a lasting impact on Qatar’s progress and strengthened the country’s position as a key regional and global actor.
Reaffirming the strong and longstanding ties between Somalia and Qatar, Minister Abdisalam emphasized Somalia’s solidarity with the Qatari people during this period of mourning. He also offered prayers for the late Father Amir, asking Almighty Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaws and provide comfort and patience to his family and the people of Qatar.
The condolence visit reflects the close diplomatic relations between Somalia and Qatar, which have continued to expand through cooperation in development, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure, education, and regional affairs.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013, is widely credited with overseeing a period of rapid modernization and economic growth that transformed Qatar into one of the world’s most influential states. His leadership helped shape the country’s modern institutions and strengthened its role in international diplomacy.
Somalia joined numerous countries and international partners in expressing condolences to the State of Qatar and honoring the legacy of the late Father Amir.
