ADDIS ABABA — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay), is leading the country’s delegation at the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council in Addis Ababa, where ministers are discussing continental priorities under the theme “Ensuring Sustainable Water Access.”
During the session, Somalia is expected to highlight its efforts to strengthen water security and improve access to safe drinking water through key national development initiatives.
The delegation will showcase the Barwaaqo Water and Rural Resilience Project, which aims to expand water infrastructure, improve climate resilience and increase access to reliable water sources for rural communities. Somalia will also present two newly constructed solar-powered boreholes designed to provide clean and sustainable water to underserved populations.
Officials say the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing water scarcity, strengthening resilience to climate change and improving livelihoods through sustainable resource management.
In addition to water security, Somalia will participate in discussions on strengthening the African Union Commission, advancing institutional reforms and promoting the continent’s shared priorities under the African Union Agenda 2063.
The Executive Council meeting brings together foreign ministers from AU member states to review policy proposals, coordinate continental initiatives and prepare recommendations for consideration by the Assembly of African Heads of State and Government.
Somalia said its participation underscores the country’s commitment to deepening regional cooperation and contributing to Africa’s collective efforts to promote sustainable development, peace and economic integration.
