MOGADISHU — Somali civil society organizations have called on the Federal Government to launch an urgent, independent, and transparent investigation into allegations and threatening statements reportedly linked to General Mahad Abdirahman, known as “Taliye Shub,” warning that any violations confirmed through a lawful process should face legal action.
In a statement, the groups said videos and audio recordings circulating on social media and allegedly containing threatening remarks attributed to the general require verification by relevant authorities to establish their authenticity and determine whether any responsibility exists.
The organizations urged the government not to overlook allegations involving military officials, statements that could contribute to political tensions, or actions that may threaten national security, stability, and public confidence in state institutions.
They also called for an investigation into claims that General Mahad Abdirahman may have supported or participated in armed activities outside the authority of the government, stressing that accountability should apply to all individuals regardless of their former positions or military rank.
The civil society groups emphasized that military positions represent a national responsibility tied to defending the Constitution, protecting state institutions, and safeguarding national security. They said that if an official investigation finds violations of legal or national duties, appropriate measures should be taken, including possible review of military status and appointments.
The groups called on Somalia’s security and judicial institutions to carry out their duties independently and fairly, ensuring that anyone found responsible for unlawful actions is held accountable.
They further urged the Federal Government to uphold the rule of law, protect public trust, and provide a clear response regarding allegations involving threats, armed activities, or possible violations by current or former government officials.
