Trump Halts Planned U.S.-Israel Strike on Iran, Says Diplomacy Given Another Chance

0

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has halted a planned joint military strike by the United States and Israel against Iran, saying diplomatic efforts have made sufficient progress to justify postponing military action.

Trump said he decided to suspend the operation after what he described as significant advances toward an agreement with Tehran, adding that the United States remains prepared to act if negotiations collapse or if Iran fails to meet its commitments. He also said several regional partners had urged Washington to allow more time for diplomacy.

The decision follows weeks of heightened military tensions that raised fears of a broader regional conflict. While suspending the planned strike, Trump stressed that all military options remain on the table should diplomatic efforts fail.
