MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia has denied reports that the residence of General Mahad Abdirahman known as “Shub”, the former commander of Somalia’s Custodial Forces, was targeted in an airstrike in Doolow District, Gedo region.
Reports circulating on social media claimed that the home where Gen. Mahad is staying in Doolow had been attacked overnight. The allegations quickly generated political reactions, with some opposition figures accusing the government of being behind the reported incident.
Government officials, however, have rejected claims that Gen. Mahad’s residence was deliberately bombed, saying the reports have not been established as factual.
Authorities said they are closely monitoring the security situation in Doolow and that relevant security agencies are working to establish what happened.
The government has also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, particularly on social media, while authorities assess reports emerging from the area.
The incident has attracted significant attention because Gen. Mahad is a former senior security official and because Doolow, in Gedo region, remains strategically important for security and cross-border movement.
The conflicting accounts have nevertheless raised questions about what occurred in the town, including reports of explosions and gunfire.
At this stage, the government has not provided a full public account of the incident, including the cause of the reported explosions, whether there were casualties or property damage, or whether any security operation took place near Gen. Mahad’s residence.
Further clarification is expected as authorities continue to assess the situation.
