The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Eritrea held a phone conversation on Thursday to discuss key regional developments, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.

The dialogue took place amid stalled talks between Somalia and Ethiopia and focused on enhancing bilateral ties and strengthening political and security cooperation.

This diplomatic engagement follows a recent meeting in El Alamein between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, during which El-Sisi pledged military support to Somalia and underscored Egypt’s strategic interest in Red Sea security. The move comes in response to Ethiopia’s declared intent to secure direct access to the Red Sea.

In October 2024, Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia held a trilateral summit in Asmara, where they reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability and the protection of Somalia’s territorial integrity

two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations and key regional issues because  Eritrea and Egypt already rejected the involvement of non-coastal states in Red Sea security
