Mogadishu — In a significant diplomatic engagement, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre welcomed the Swiss Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Mirko Giulietti, to his office in Mogadishu on Tuesday. The two leaders held constructive talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding development cooperation between Somalia and Switzerland.
Prime Minister Barre briefed Ambassador Giulietti on the progress made under his administration, known as DanQaran, emphasizing his government’s dedication to national development and inclusive governance. He underlined key priorities such as improving public services, economic growth, and establishing a democratic process that will allow Somalis to participate in free and fair elections.
“The DanQaran government is determined to return power to the people through transparent public elections. Our goal is to build a stable, democratic state rooted in justice and development,” Prime Minister Barre stated during the meeting.
Ambassador Giulietti reaffirmed Switzerland’s steadfast commitment to supporting Somalia’s path toward stability. He praised the government’s reform agenda and pledged continued Swiss assistance in critical sectors such as peacebuilding, reconciliation, and sustainable development.
“Switzerland stands with Somalia as it advances toward peace, security, and democratic governance. We are ready to strengthen our partnership and support initiatives that promote long-term development and national unity,” said Ambassador Giulietti.
The meeting marks a step forward in deepening cooperation between the two countries and reflects the growing international confidence in Somalia’s reform efforts and governance trajectory under Prime Minister Barre’s leadership.
