MOGADISHU — Uganda’s Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces, General Sam Okuday, arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday to participate in a high-level meeting of military leaders from countries contributing troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
General Okuday was received by officials upon his arrival at Aden Adde International Airport, as he joined other senior military representatives attending discussions focused on the future of security operations in Somalia.
The AUSSOM Forces Leaders Meeting is expected to address key issues related to strengthening military cooperation among troop-contributing countries, improving coordination in joint security operations, and supporting efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Somali National Army.
Participants are also expected to discuss strategies for accelerating operations against armed groups, improving operational planning, and ensuring a coordinated approach among international partners supporting Somalia’s security transition.
Uganda has been one of the longest-serving contributors to African Union peace support operations in Somalia, playing a major role in efforts to support Somali security institutions and counter extremist threats.
The meeting comes at a critical time as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its national security forces and gradually increase responsibility for security operations across the country.
Military leaders from AUSSOM partner countries are expected to review current security developments and discuss measures aimed at improving stability, operational effectiveness, and long-term support for Somalia’s defence institutions.
