Central Equatoria State – South Sudan Government authorities in Yei River County have issued a heightened security alert after an ambush attack on an SSPDF position along the Yei–Morobo Road near Mile 9. The incident, believed to have been carried out by SPLA-IO forces using guerrilla tactics, did not result in any reported casualties.

In response, the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) have deployed additional personnel to the area and increased patrols to secure the vital roadway, which connects Yei to Morobo County.

Travel Advisory Issued Amid Rising Tensions

Officials are urging civilians and travelers to exercise extreme caution when using the Yei–Morobo Road. The region has seen a surge in armed clashes, ambushes, and looting, raising serious concerns for public safety.

Authorities advise the following precautionary measures:
• Stay Informed: Monitor credible news and official updates before traveling.
• Avoid the Route Unless Necessary: Especially during periods of heightened conflict.
• Beware of Retaliatory Attacks: Civilians have been targeted in the past following armed group losses.

“There is a growing trend of innocent civilians becoming victims in retaliatory violence,” said a local security official. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”

The government emphasizes that public safety remains its highest priority and calls on the community for cooperation during this period of instability.
