MOYALE – Reports emerging from Moyale, a strategically important town along the Ethiopia–Kenya border, indicate that a convoy of armed personnel reportedly associated with Ethiopia’s Oromia Region is moving toward the area amid reports of ongoing clashes and rising security tensions.

According to information circulating among local communities, the convoy was reportedly spotted traveling along a road leading toward Moyale. The armed personnel are believed to be heading toward areas affected by the reported fighting, although their exact destination and mission remain unclear.

In a recorded message accompanying the reports, a man identifying himself as a member of the Waloo community expressed solidarity with residents of Moyale and claimed that reinforcements were approaching.

“We, the Waloo community, are coming to support you. Do not lose hope, people of Moyale. We are getting closer,” the speaker said, according to a translation of his Somali-language remarks.

The message appeared intended to encourage residents and signal support amid the reported confrontation.

The development has raised concerns about a possible escalation of tensions in Moyale, a border town with significant economic and strategic importance for communities in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya.

However, the identity of the speaker, the number of vehicles and armed personnel involved, and their organizational affiliation have not been independently established.

It also remains unclear whether the reported convoy is part of an official regional security deployment or an independently organized armed movement.

No independently verified information is currently available regarding casualties, civilian displacement or damage resulting from the reported clashes.

Moyale has experienced periods of intercommunal tension and insecurity in the past, making reports of additional armed movements particularly sensitive for local communities.

As uncertainty continues, independent confirmation from regional authorities, local officials and humanitarian organizations will be essential to establishing the circumstances surrounding the reported military movement.

The situation remains developing, and further information is expected as additional details become available.
