LOWER SHABELLE — Joint Somali and Ugandan security forces have successfully eliminated more than 100 al-Shabaab militants in a major offensive in Bariire village, located in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region.
The coordinated operation targeted key strongholds used by the al-Shabaab insurgents, disrupting their control and diminishing their operational capabilities in the area. Sources on the ground report that the offensive began early this week, with Somali and Ugandan troops carrying out a series of well-planned attacks that overwhelmed the militants.
This joint military action marks a significant step in the ongoing campaign to restore peace and stability to Lower Shabelle, a region that has long been plagued by militant violence and insecurity.
The success also highlights the growing cooperation between Somalia’s national forces and their regional allies, including Uganda, who continue to provide critical support in combating terrorism.
