Yokohama – A high-level Somali delegation led by Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, Mr. Mahmud Abdirahman Sheikh Farah (Benebene), is participating in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) taking place in Yokohama, Japan.

The Somali delegation includes Ambassador to China and Japan, Ms. Hodan Osman Abdi, and the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisor, Mr. Aweys Abdullahi Ali.
During the conference’s opening session, Minister Benebene delivered a keynote speech highlighting Somalia’s progress and future development plans. Key points of his address included:
• Economic and Security Achievements: Somalia has reduced poverty by 16% and successfully exited the debt relief program, reflecting significant strides in economic stability and governance.
• Investor Confidence: Over 90% of companies operating in Somalia express confidence in the country’s business climate and security improvements.
• Future Development Goals: Somalia’s long-term vision is guided by the National Transformation Plan (NTP) and the Centennial Vision 2060, aiming to ensure sustainable economic growth, job creation, and investment opportunities.
Minister Benebene also urged international countries and corporations, particularly Japan, to take advantage of Somalia’s abundant investment opportunities, including:
• Rich maritime fisheries.
• Livestock sector, with approximately 40 million heads of livestock.
• Solar energy and regional trade investment opportunities.
“Somalia is a country full of opportunities, and we are ready for economic cooperation built on trust, shared interest, and sustainable development,” Minister Benebene emphasized.
