DHUSAMAREB – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has declared that Somalia’s security situation has reached its best point in a quarter of a century. Speaking at a ceremony held in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, the president highlighted recent progress and credited Somalis themselves for leading the way to stability.
President Mohamud cited the example of Mogadishu’s Makka Al-Mukarama road, which was once infamously dubbed “the road of death” due to frequent bombings and targeted assassinations. Today, he said, it has become one of the safest areas in Somalia, reflecting the country’s steady improvement in security.
“The Somali people are the ones who made this success possible,” he emphasized, noting that public resilience and support for government forces have played a key role in the fight against terrorism.
The president also pointed out that the nationwide military offensive against the Al-Shabaab militant group has contributed significantly to the country’s progress. However, he admitted that the war is not yet fully won, as the extremists still maintain control over certain rural areas.
His remarks come at a time when Mogadishu has experienced a noticeable reduction in deadly attacks. Residents report that planned assassinations and car bombings, which once plagued the capital, have dramatically decreased in recent months, offering a sense of relief and renewed hope.
The Somali government, backed by local communities and international partners, continues to push forward with security operations aimed at weakening Al-Shabaab’s presence and consolidating state authority across the nation.
