CAIRO/RIYADH — The foreign ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia have strongly condemned any unilateral actions that undermine the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, with particular reference to Israel’s reported recognition of “Somaliland.”
In a joint position, the two countries said such a move constitutes a clear violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, stressing that it poses a serious threat to peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
The ministers reaffirmed their firm and unwavering support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing that Somalia remains a single, internationally recognized state. They rejected any attempts to divide the country or weaken its internationally recognized borders.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia also warned that unilateral decisions of this nature risk fueling political tensions and instability in an already fragile region, calling on all parties to respect Somalia’s sovereignty and adhere to established international legal frameworks.
The two Arab nations reiterated their commitment to supporting Somalia through diplomatic and political means, underscoring the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to preserve stability, promote dialogue, and prevent actions that could escalate tensions in the Horn of Africa.
They concluded by urging the international community to uphold international law, respect the sovereignty of states, and avoid steps that could undermine regional peace and security.
