DUBLIN — Irish authorities have deported 42 South African nationals, including men, women and children, on a chartered removal flight from Dublin to Johannesburg, officials confirmed on Friday.
The operation was carried out under Irish immigration enforcement procedures, with authorities stating that all individuals on board were subject to final and enforceable deportation orders issued in accordance with national immigration law. Officials said the removals followed standard administrative and legal processes, including exhaustion of appeal rights or failure to obtain permission to remain in the country.
The Department of Justice described the operation as part of “ongoing enforcement activity” aimed at ensuring compliance with Ireland’s immigration system. Authorities did not disclose the individual circumstances of those deported, citing confidentiality and the sensitivity of immigration case files.
This latest charter flight follows a similar operation earlier in the year, bringing the reported total number of South African nationals removed from Ireland through such coordinated flights in 2026 to 105. Officials said charter removals are used in cases where multiple deportation orders are executed at once, allowing for “more efficient and orderly returns.”
The government has maintained that deportations are carried out only after due process, including assessment of asylum claims where applicable and opportunities for legal challenge. However, rights groups in Europe have in the past raised concerns about transparency and the handling of detention and removal procedures, particularly in cases involving families and vulnerable individuals.
Irish authorities did not indicate whether further deportation flights are scheduled, but said immigration enforcement operations would continue as part of broader border management policy.
